Half Dome

Ranger (stops along trail, sweat dripping off forehead and nose): How are you guys doing?

Girls (step to side of trail to let Ranger pass): Doing great!

Ranger: So how far did you make it up?

Girls (slight pause): We were hiking up to Half Dome.

Ranger: Did you make it to the top?

Girls: Oh we were the first to summit today!

Ranger: Do you girls have your permits with you?

Girls:  No sir, we don't.

Ranger: Did you use the cables?

Girls: Yes.

Ranger: You do know that's a $175 fine, right?

Girls (golf ball-sized eyes):  No sir, we didn't understand that was the situation.

Ranger (hinting a smile):  Well I'm going to give you a stern warning.  You can climb it any time of the day, but you always need a permit.

Girls (audible sigh of relief):  Oh!  Thank you so much!!

Ranger (flashes big smile):  Yes.  Did I hear you guys say you went to a Green Bay Packers Game?
